Sam Benen has been in the investing business since graduating from Princeton in 2007 with a Bachelor’s degree in economics.  His career as a trader and portfolio manager in the hedge fund industry, with experience trading a wide range of financial instruments and overseeing complex portfolio strategies, gives him a unique perspective on being an investment advisor.  He started SJBenen Advisory, LLC in 2016 with the simple idea to use his accumulated investing experience to help people

After graduating from the University of Virginia in 2007, Dan commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy. He served as an F-18 fighter pilot and tactics instructor for 11 years of active duty service and completed a combat deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operating Enduring Freedom. As an Advanced Flight Training instructor Dan specialized in teaching air combat in the T-45 Goshawk. He was honorably discharged in March 2018 having received numerous awards and medals for exemplary service.

Dan has always been passionate about investing and financial planning. During his time in service, Dan was dedicated to working with active duty personnel to educate them about their finances. Dan has brought his relentless work ethic and creative problem-solving skills from the service to the SJBenen team and to our clients.
